Plaikni Falls

Plaikni Falls is a hidden gem nestled within Crater Lake National Park. This 20-foot waterfall cascades down a glacier-carved cliff, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers1. The name "Plaikni" means "the rising" in Klamath, which is fitting because this waterfall seems to rise straight out of a fairytale. It’s a relatively recent addition to the park’s attractions, having been made accessible by a new trail in 2011.

Plaikni Falls Trail

Plaikni Falls is nestled along the East Rim Drive at the south end of Mount Scott. To reach it, you’ll take the Plaikni Falls Trail, a relatively new and well-loved path. This trail is an easy, 1-mile (1.6 km) out-and-back journey with a gentle elevation gain of 125 feet (38 meters). Most of the trail is wheelchair accessible, making it a great option for everyone except maybe your pet sloth.

As you walk the trail, you'll be enveloped by an old-growth forest of fir and hemlock. In the warmer months, wildflowers add splashes of color along the way. At the trail’s end, you'll find the waterfall cascading over a glacier-carved cliff. The falls are fed by a spring nearly 7,000 feet (2,134 meters) above sea level.

Accessibility

You'll find the trailhead along the Pinnacles Road, which is a spur off the East Rim Drive. Depending on snow conditions, the trail is typically open from early July through late October.
